The Pacific Crest Regional Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses is pleased to offer two scholarships annually for the AACN National Teaching Institute. We are dedicated to certification and education of our local critical care nurses. Each year we award a $1000.00 scholarship toward tuition, airfare, and travel expenses to a local CCRN/PCCN, as well as a $500.00 scholarship toward tuition and test fees, to a nurse ready to sit for the CCRN or PCCN at NTI. PCRC's 20th Anniversary 2009
The Pacific Crest Regional Chapter of AACN held their Certification Celebration Dinner and celebrated the chapter’s 20th anniversary on Friday, February 13, 2009. The Pacific Crest Chapter, a “Chapter without Walls”, is based in Medford, Oregon, and serves southern Oregon and northern California, an area covering over seven counties and 30,000 square miles. The event was attended by certified nurses and chapter members in the Pacific Crest Region, as well as Region 18 CAT, Melissa Hutchinson. Administration from two area hospitals, Rogue Valley Medical Center, and Providence Medford Medical Center, came in support of our certified nurses, as did special guest, vascular surgeon, Dr. John Schwartz and our special guest speaker, Oregon State Senator Jason Atkinson.

The highlight of the evening was a presentation by Oregon State Senator Jason Atkinson, who was injured by an accidental gunshot wound to the leg in July of 2008, and spent considerable time in the ICU. Senator Atkinson gave a touching and heartwarming tribute to critical care nurses. He shared the story of his recent injury, and the experience of nearly becoming an amputee, incorporating humor into his presentation, by stating how ironic it is that while he works in Iraq, he suffered a gunshot wound in Central Point, Oregon!
